How to Build a Picnic Table: For Even the Pickiest Person

As the director for my local park, I am always looking for new ways to improve and update the park’s aesthetics and amenities. But, because the park is in a rather poor neighborhood I hardly have enough money to cover expenses let alone to add on or improve the park. Mostly I rely on volunteers and myself to do most of the work. Usually we plant flowers and trees, keep up with lawn care, and sometimes we’ll construct small projects like benches and birdfeeders. But, a few months ago a local college promised me 100 students on a Saturday, in order to promote qualities of service and community, to help with anything I needed.

With such an immense concentration of volunteers on one day, I decided to tackle the biggest project of the park that had been ignored for over twenty years. The picnicking area was one section that was completely rundown, housing rotten tables and broken benches. But, I faced a major problem in my plan. I had no idea how to build a picnic table. Working with the park for over 15 years, I picked up a lot of handyman and woodworking skills, but I had never built a picnic table and neither had any of the other employees. If I wanted to accomplish my goal, I had to find picnic table plans simple enough to be easily taught to college students with no experience in woodworking or construction.

I almost gave up and was considering changing my plans to accommodate the students, leaving them with lawn care, but I decided to stick it through and see what I could accomplish. I called a local carpenter and asked if he could volunteer his services, instructing and guiding the students on how to build a picnic table, but he just hung up on me. Dismayed but not defeated, I began searching online for picnic table plans. I founded multiple sites that sold plans but nothing that fulfilled what I needed, simple and clear plans that resulted in a lasting professional product.

Again empty handed I received a call from the carpenter who apologized for his rudeness and said that although he was busy on the weekend in question he would share with me a tip. He led me to a site that included numerous woodworking plans that were just what I was looking for. The site’s picnic table plans were perfect. Not only did the tables fit the park’s aesthetics perfectly, but they were also so simple to build. In no time I was teaching the student’s the easy steps and at the end of the day we had a completely revitalized picnic area that had become the star attraction of the park! Not only did the site deliver services beyond my expectations, but they also led me to beautifully constructed products that would work great for anyone.
